Annual Inter-School Extempore Debate
Annual Inter-school Extempore Debate
Since 2010, the Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City has conducted an Annual Inter-School Extempore Debate. The debate's primary objective is to promote discussion and awareness amongst the youth on social and cultural issues faced by society today and provide a platform for them to gain valuable public speaking experience. The debate is organized together with our KHMS Interact Club.
Initially conceived to bring the best debating talent amongst the Interact Clubs in local Delhi schools together, the event has since been expanded to include the leading schools across Delhi/NCR, and beyond.
- The 12th Annual Inter School Debate in 2021 had participation from 42 schools across India (including 2 international schools - Dubai College (Dubai) & De Lacy Academy (Knottingley, UK).
- The 11th Annual Inter School Debate in 2020 had participation from 40 schools across India, including 4 international schools - Dubai College (Dubai), De Lacy Academy (Knottingley, UK), DPS STS School (Dhaka, Bangladesh) & Notre Dame High School (Glasgow. UK).
The format for the debate consists of
- Teams of two speakers (speaking for & against the motion) from two schools face off against each other
- Winning team from each debating round advances to the next round
- Topics are shared with speakers only a few minutes before the debate
The winning team and the best individual speakers receive cash prizes and trophies. The initial prize money for the debate had been sponsored by Mr. Umesh Sood since the debates inception in 2010. Over the years we have had been fortunate to have the support additional corporate sponsors such as Tribhovan Das Bhimji Zaveri (2014) and Sonalika International & Airtel (2015).
In the initial years the debate was hosted by Kulachi Hansraj Model School which hosts our Interact Club. Since 2014, the debate venue has been the India International Center, Lodhi Road.
